The Healing Power of Water

In spiritual practice, Water is the element of unconditional love, intuition, and peaceful energies. It is within the magick of elemental Water we experience the gentleness of falling in love, the security of our family’s (blood or chosen) affection, the comfort of our friend’s presence. The power of water also gives eloquence and understanding, guiding us to discover and effectively speak our truth.

Water is often related to the Goddess, its aspects being classically feminine in nature, as well as the power the tide has over the Moon. We find this influence with ocean Goddesses like Aphrodite, Yemaya, and Kuan Yin, and river Goddesses like Oshun, Ganga, and Anuket. The ocean is often described as the Womb of the Mother, while rivers are Sweet Waters and Nourishment from the Womb. Many practitioners to reconnect to the Divine Feminine and promote tender healing of the mind, body, and heart.

Science tells us that we are 65% water; we can relate this to an understanding that the majority of our being is made from love, peace, and compassion. Water teaches us to open our hearts, to feel our emotions truly and deeply, to ride the wave while having faith that the tide will eventually calm.

The majority of our healing and rejuvenation practices are related to water  – a warm bath, a visit to the spa, an impromptu trip to the beach. We dedicate and consecrate water to make it “holy”; we entrust it to purify our bodies and our material belongings.

And for the Sacred Woman, proper hydration is the key to overall good health. Staying hydrated helps maintain body weight, keeps the skin clear, and allows our senses to operate at their highest capacity. The random aches of the joints disappear; the internal organs function at the optimal. When the waters of the body are properly balanced, your sense of taste becomes finely honed; the womb and the yoni become more sensitive to pleasure. With the blessings of water, we think, feel, and express ourselves from a place of harmony and wholeness.

In his book The Hidden Messages in  Water,  internationally renowned Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto shows how the influence of our thoughts, words and feelings can transform the molecules of water, thereby shifting its impact on our personal health.

Using high-speed photography, Dr. Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water reveal changes when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. Water from pure natural springs, and water that has been exposed to loving words and vibrations produce brilliant, complex, and colorful snowflake patterns. Polluted water, and water exposed to negative thoughts and low vibrations, forms incomplete, broken patterns with dull, lifeless colors.

So, which of these would you prefer to take into your body? Which of these would you like 65% of your body to look like?

Blessing, or harmonizing, your drinking water can be a powerful and simple way to embrace the pleasures of self care.

  1. First switch from drinking tap water to purified or spring water.
  2. Get a large clean container, preferably glass with a lid or  a screw-on cap to keep the water free from contaminants.
  3. Decorate your water container with colorful images, words, or inspiring patterns that reflect the energy you would like to take into your body. Focus on positive words such as love, wisdom, health, beauty, or even enlightenment.
  4. Then, fill your jar with your spring water and seal. Energize your water by holding the container in your hands, and sending good intentions. Have fun with this! Tell the water what its purpose is. Sing the water your favorite song. Chant your favorite mantra. Speak your favorite Goddess prayer.
  5. Your water is ready to drink! Pour yourself a glass and indulge in the pleasures of healing water!

For an extra boost, you can add energized crystals to your water container, to infuse the liquid with the power of gemstones.  Just be sure to choose non-toxic crystals such as quartz, amethyst, or rose quartz.  Choose crystals that align with your intention.  Simply prepare your water as instructed, and add the crystal to the bottle. Let it sit in the fridge overnight to prevent staleness, and remove the crystal before drinking!
